Supportive-expressive psychotherapy provides patients with an opportunity to explore and communicate difficult emotional experiences associated with cancer. Therapy may address fear, grief, anger, uncertainty, altered identity, interpersonal concerns, and existential distress. The therapeutic relationship provides emotional containment and validation while facilitating adaptive psychological processing. This approach can help patients feel less isolated and develop greater understanding of their emotional responses.
